Janet Levatin, homeopathic physician and passionate health-care advocate, especially for children, passes at the age of 71.
Janet Lynn Levatin (née Stiefler), MD, born on October 24th of 1953, was a homeopathic physician who took her undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester and then her medical degree from George Washington University in 1982. Her father, Bernard, attended the University of Illinois, receiving his medical degree in 1946 and subsequently specializing in urology. Forty years later, in 1986, she completed an internship and residency in pediatrics at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (Newark, NJ). During her medical training she became dissatisfied with conventional medicine as it did not offer adequate solutions for patients. In her search to find better ways she discovered homeopathy and studied the discipline religiously with Louis Klein, FSHom, in his Luminos Homeopathic Courses.
“The words that come to mind when I think about Janet are courage, commitment, standing up for what you believe in, empathy, helping others, an unusual sense of humor and cats.
“ I met Janet many years ago when I was teaching courses on homeopathy and, with her eagerness to learn and improve, she quickly became a trusted colleague and good friend. She not only epitomized the best of a homeopathic practitioner and medical doctor, but also was not afraid to get out there in the public and state her principles of health and fight against environmental toxins. Her courageous stances were impressive. She was highly perceptive and intelligent, which translated to an ability to be very effective as a homeopath.
“She was also a caring mother and cat guardian. She cared deeply about her patients and could be outspoken about harmful influences in their lives. This outspoken intensity was not always easy for just anyone to handle, yet her contribution to her patients and the wider alternative health and wellness movement is an important part of her legacy.”

From 1986 to 2011, she conducted a holistic medical practice in Boston, MA, offering a variety of holistic health care modalities, including homeopathy, botanicals, and nutritional counseling. In 2011, she joined the Tenpenny Integrative Medical Center in Middleburg Heights, Ohio, where she continued to offer her holistic health care skills. For many years, Dr Levatin was out-spoken concerning the toxicity of pharmaceuticals, including vaccines, and was passionate about what true prevention meant and sought to discover natural solutions for health problems whenever possible.
“I lost a long-time friend, and this world lost a warrior for truth and an amazing children’s health advocate.
“Dr. Janet Levatin had been quietly battling depression and anxiety in recent months and took her own life … Words cannot express what shocking news this is to me and how shocking it will be to those of you who knew Janet and her heart for protecting children from vaccine harm and passion for holistic medicine.
“Janet, was one of my first friends when I moved to the Cleveland, Ohio area in 2011. She was a pediatrician to my boys from the first month. When we arrived for their first appointment, she said she could tell I was a kindred spirit and asked me if I wanted to help her lead a holistic mom’s group with her in Cleveland. We had meetings every month at the Tenpenny Center where she worked and we educated moms and dads in the local community on natural health, breast-feeding, vaccine risks and chemical exposures, etc.
“In 2015, she was one of the founding members of Ohio Advocates for Medical Freedom (OAMF). Janet donated her time and her resources by giving presentations at our seminars, giving testimony on legislation affecting exemption rights, parental rights and vaccine choice, etc. For years she came to Columbus to help us educate legislators on vaccine injuries and risks.
“During Covid she was bold and brave, and encouraged others to be the same, to have no fear, and to go out and live their lives. She would dress up in silly masks to make a point of how crazy it all was and made us all laugh many times.
“Janet gave her gift of holistic medicine to others and had a special place in her heart for those she cared for in Tanzania when she would do annual holistic medical mission trips there.
“She enjoyed trips and visits with her son, Rafael, whom she adored, and was a wonderful cat-mom to her 2 sweet kitties. When my mom died on the morning of the lockdown, she was there for me. She came to my aid when I was in an emotional pit
for 10 days afterward.
“I affectionately referred to her as my ‘earth mother,’ since my real mom was now in heaven. When I moved from Lyndhurst, she helped me pack and clean my kitchen. She was always there for people and they needed her.
“I didn’t make time to check on her this last week and that is guilt I will carry. Don’t ever miss a moment to take time for someone you care about. Life is fragile and loved ones might not always be there. Call them, hug them, tell them how much you appreciate who they are and how glad you are to have them in your life. And most of all, tell them Jesús loves them and that he will sustain them in their times of weakness.”

Dr. Levatin crossed the threshold on June 9, 2025.
“In the last years, we did not have contact and I wish I could have said goodbye to such a wonderful human being. May your passion for homeopathy live on.”
– Louis Klein.

“Dr. Janet Levatin is forever in my heart. She is probably one of the best women I’ve ever met, and words cannot express my heartache for her. She’s saved my life and I have unlimited gratitude for her generosity, friendship, and time in her presence. Truly loved and missed by all. Sending love to her family and friends in this difficult time.”

“Dr. Janet was my son’s homeopathic doctor for almost 10 years. She has gone above and beyond helping a stressed-out mother over the years. A few years ago, my son and I got extremely ill from toxic mold exposure. Dr. Janet did everything she could to address my son’s chronically deteriorating respiratory and immune conditions, but my son’s health was declining very rapidly to the point where he was being tested for cystic fibrosis.
“I was at a really low point in my life, but Dr. Levatin found extra time to be there for me. When I finally discovered the root cause of the illnesses (mold), I became obsessed with researching mold prevention and treatment, ultimately switching careers to focus on Healthy Building Design concepts. I shared photos and knowledge of the construction projects I was working on with Dr. Levatin. This really fascinated and interested Dr. Levatin, and we seemed to bond over indoor air quality and mold prevention and treatment. She had asked for me to do mold inspections for some of her patients and also asked me to inspect for mold at her rental home, followed by the North Royalton home. She seemed to be extremely concerned about mold in her newly purchased home, stating she could smell it with her ‘hound’s nose.’ She was very concerned about her cats potentially breathing in the mold too. I consulted with her a few times, giving her my recommendations on how to best address her mold concerns, which included my mold remediation specialist treating a few localized mold areas in her home. This is where I felt like we bonded, and I was planning on reaching out to her again this summer to share very exciting news about top notch air purifying products that I knew she was going to be excited about.
“It came as a complete shock to me to hear of her premature passing. I have regret for not reaching out sooner. I hope in my heart that she found peace in her home, as she made so many changes to it, in order to improve her air quality. She truly practiced what she preached: not only did she promote health and wellness to her patients, but she also practiced it on herself too. She was an extremely rare gem, and I will be forever grateful to have had the privilege of encountering her for my son’s health and working with her professionally. It’s been an honor, Dr. Levatin. May we meet again soon!”

“My almost 5-year-old great granddaughter has been a patient of Dr. Levatin’s since her birth. She and the 5-year-old shared the same birthday month. We always brought an unusual gift or a book to celebrate her. She was a wonderful doctor and we have many wonderful memories of her. Ohio has lost an incredible teacher, healer and friend.”
